Pre- Production - Costumes

As you can see the leather face character where no colour full cloths which are raged and cut to show that he does not care about his looks. We will be going for blacker look to be more symbolic. This is as black show evil and a dark side to life and also death as you are lower to the darkness. Leatherface is one of the scariest and most famous horror villains of all time, we are thinking we would like to have the same impact on our audience, so using a example of leatherfaces costume was appropriate.

Killer’s costume-

Black hoody (For the villain) – The Reason we wanted to use black because it show connotes evil dark and also secretive. We are hoping to use a hood this will hide the identity so the audience will not be able to relate to the killer as they can not see his face. This will also make him more mysterious and we believe that a bit of mystery is important for our character.

Black trousers (For the villain) –

The black trouser are being used for the same reason as the black hoody. It will also mean that he can hide in the darker places easier, this could mean that we could the actor using this costume the ability to hide in a area and suddenly appear to come out of nowhere

Victim costume –

These cloths are very fitting for the girl as they are semi country with semi fashion for that 70’s era. It is also very symbolic as it is red to show dander and then white to show a nice person with no dark side.
She also has a skirt which makes her seem more open and easy to talk to. This is also out of a horror film

We will be using cloths like this as the white and red cloths as they symbolise different things to black. White represent calm and also very contemporary. The red represents that the girl is in danger and she is normally sexy.

The killer’s weapon –

We though he will have knife as a weapon, Knifes are used in many horror and thriller films like in Vacancy. A knife symbolises more of an assassin type of killing as it is silent and also it can cause more of a pain full death as the killer can stab the victim where he want from the foot to the head. Stabbing some one in the leg would be more horror type kill as the killer would make it more painful and really slow death

This is England Case Study

How do filmmakers use new technologies to help attract audiences to their films?

Film makers use new advanced technology to attract their target audiences to get higher rating and gain a profit in double figure millions. However companies such as Film Four, have small budget films and are after keeping an audience, but only make small profits so attracting there audience is crucial.
In many of the websites that are associated with the production UK use new technology through monthly newsletter which you apply for free. (Optimum Releasing and Screen Yorkshire) This is more effective than sending it through the post as the majority of today’s society use a computer daily. By having a huge database from film reviews to actually purchasing the film, it allows their target audience to gain a broader knowledge of the film they may see or again, purchase (BFI). New technology can allow some of UK productions to get to the target audiences through social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook. Video links have become increasingly popular on the homepages of the websites and also pod casts.
Distributing films such as Shane Meadow’s ‘This is England’ can be difficult as it was funded by the national lottery which means lack of money for advertising. However websites such as IFC entertainment give links to the film’s blog which gives an insight into how these films are made. By putting it into sections; such a theatrical releases and DVD releases gives a more direct link to the audience.
There are many different ways you can distribute the DVD. Examples of this may be a website giving a trial such as Netflix (the largest online DVD rental service, offering flat rate rental-by-mail and online streaming to customers in the United States) and them giving the audience the chose of through post or through the Internet to their TV. Also having a whole website dedicated to the film shows the audience the preparation the directors and actors went through to create the film. An example of this is Shane Meadows ‘This is England’ which gives behind the scenes footage etc. This is just another way that filmmakers use technology to attract audiences.
Relating the issues within the film can be another way that the filmmaker attracts their audience to the film. Shane Meadow’s deals with racism and rights of passage in ‘This is England’ and by attacking the issues through reviews, this attracts his audience as they will show an interest as they will understand more about it and form their own opinion.

Pre-production - casting

Casting

Killer Character – We are 99% certain we will be Using Jamie Fisher as our killer character who is going to be called …………. We will be using him as he is tall and also he does sport and as we will be doing many takes of the chases scene we will need some one who will be able to run at the same pace with no laps in speed and also no tiredness show as he may seem slow in one part but then real quick the next second. He also lives very local and he is a very calm person who will be able to talk to but will not muck around that much as he know some of us. He also lives near by.

Female Character – We are not that certain who we will be using but it is between Grace Birchill or Maisie East. We are wanting to use them iver of them because Grace does Drama for AS level and Maisie has been used before in a BTEC film. They also do sport quite a bit so they will be both able to do the chase scene over and over again as we will want to do it from many shots. Grace lives near by but |Maisie live a little while away but I sure one of us could pick her up.

The Parents – We will be using great camera trick as none of our parents want to do it. We will be using feet of some people in our group and just the words “ bye darling” or some think bye that with may be a quick sweepy pan of TV on. It will be easy as we will probably use some feet of any one in our group.

Other characters – We should not be using anyone else but we might just have a few local people in the film as they go around doing there day to day life. We would like to have no one in our film because that would create a better atmosphere and at would give the allusion of isolation and desolation.

Institution = this is where a company is established e.g BBC there can be relationships between institutions as well

Q – How many ways can you 'read' something produced by the BBC?

The BBC provides different products which you can read through developed technology such as; their digital channels, e.g News 24 which allow the access of the red button for weather, sports etc
the radio station are very popular mainly broad casted through digital TV and radio, normal radio and satellite TV.
Finally also its websites, e.g bbc.co.uk/ceebies for children and then other branches which apply to different subjects like the new or politics

Pre Production - Editing

Editing

I have comprised a small video to show some simple transitions that can be used in our production, it will be posted on our blogs but here is the link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPJl-F2o_7o
Transitions
Transition One, Fade: The most basic transition, it’s so simple and effect that I think it works the best out of all the transitions. It provides a nice smooth change between a scene. It would work best with a calm scene rather that a fast paced action scene.

Transition Two, Dissolve: Another simple transition but one at which I feel doesn’t work very well at all. It gives the film a crude, patchy and unprofessional feel.

Transition Three, Wipe Wide Down: This transition would be good to show a new day. It feels like it wipes everything clean. It would be used to show different times of days.

Transition Four, Page Curl: This one is also like Wipe, it feels as if it should be used to show a new beginning or change in time.

Transition Five, Inset: Personally I would not use this transition it feels very unprofessional. The transition feels too blocky.

Transition Six, Flip: This transition I could see being used in the title or credits bit not within the actual video clip itself.

Transition Severn, Bars: This one I feel is the worst of the lot, it feels so very unprofessional and doesn’t work well as a transition at all.

Pre-Productiom - Character Profiles

Character profiles for media thriller film
Characters:
Jessica Bradshaw:
Jessica’s family used to live in the city. About a year prior the when the film is beings set her family moved to this lovely country house, this seemed very odd to Jessica as they were very settled in the City but her parents have insisted that they only moved to start a new life with the ‘friendly’ people in the county, still Jessica has slightly resented her parents ever since the move. Living in the country has not worked for her as thus far, it is just a far cry from her city life style. Other kids at her new school have never taken a great shining to her; this in itself does not bother her it is more the fact that they have never given her the chance.

Jessica is a girl who is used to getting what she wants, she is a likable characters, and is quite she will not be intimidated and will not fall in to peer pressure, so basically a typical teenage girl, sure of herself likable and not afraid to put her opinions.Hooded figure without a name (the bad guy):The so called hooded figure is a very shady and mysterious character; we meet him early on in the film while he is what looks like following Jessica.Little is know about this man, but rumours have been spreading around that they are a group that has lived in the area around the house for generations; some say they are called The Cult of The Black Crow.

Many people say that the stories surrounding this group of people are not true, but this man would like to prove otherwise…Martin and Molly BradshawMartin and Molly Bradshaw are the parents of Jessica. The two of them were both born and raised in London. They met in London and lived in a city of some description for the majority for the life, but when they saw that a lovely country house was for sale they could not resist, although this seems to have caused a few problems with their daughter.

Pre-Production Soundtrack

Sound track
For our opening credits we as a group have decided a track called ‘Eerie Angel’. This song I believe has the perfect style for the beginning of a horror thriller. It is eerie and seems to me a good tension builder; it will be perfect as it gets the adrenaline pumping before the movie has even started. Our opening scene is going to be 100% digitise sound hopefully; I think this is a good idea as it will really give the viewer a feel of what it will be like to be in our main characters shoes. For the scene were the main character wakes up we have decided to go with a song entitled ‘If Only You Knew’ this song is very calming and cheerful. I feel that this will work for the so called morning sequence because it is cheery and uplifting, and I think this will connote a new day a new start.

pre production - sound

Sound

Sound is a very important part of any movie production, if the sound isn’t right it can really spoil the film. There are two types of sound:

Diegetic:

This is sound that comes from sources within the film for example, the sound of a bird in a cage. It’s sound that hasn’t been placed onto the film whilst the editing took place.

Non – Diegetic:

This is sound that has been placed over the original film and the source can’t often be seen for example, the sound of a dog barking in a housing estate.

Music

The type of music is going to play a huge part in our production. Using something that is up beat and energetic isn’t going to have the same affect as something that has an eerie and mysterious feel.

It’s high likely that we will be placing Non Diegetic sound over our production. Typical sounds can be placed over during the chase scene like a dog barking as the two characters run to the playing field.

For Diegetic sound there will also be emphasis on footsteps, when the killer walks around the house with camera shots of his feet, say walking up the stairs and the sound of his footsteps quiet but emphasized in a way that gives the viewer an intense feeling.

Helping in examination..

Using this website has helped me use more techniqual language in the areas i need improvement. Also its helps break down all elements of Mise-en-scene, which is crucial in examination.
